Homeschooling can be a challenge. We as moms may feel that something is missing and we have to go by the book. Don’t forget the reason that we chose to home-school in the first place,to not go by the book. Every parent and household teach differently from Amy across the street and Jane next door, kids and their personalities are different and their curriculum should be as just so. The most difficult part of homeschooling is choosing the curriculum that is best suited for your kids. If you have one child or seven, choose what will fil their needs for how they learn. I have struggled with this for two years and finally got it right last year! I
Summer was going by so quickly I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to finish all of this years planning. I have different age groups and this was a lot tougher than I had intended it to be. I took the summer off from my classes so that I could review all of the material that I have chosen for of my kids(students). We are homeschooling our 7 year old this year and knowing how active she is,I had to come up with fun and motivating learning tool for her to stay interested.
We chose A-Beka for our 2nd grader. I love the curriculum and what it had to offer. I love that scripture is incorporated in her daily assignments. I am also using the Work Box System for my daughter. I tweaked it a bit to fit my daughter’s personality but the foundation of the system itself I still use.
I used a file folder to make a schedule folder for Lauryn
File folder to Notebook
Inside I put Velcro and labels that I laminated. She is very visual right now and this worked out perfectly! When she is complete with each subject she will take it off and place the subject card under number one of her file . So what I did was make it a little more interesting than the schedule strip and less hectic for her.I gave her a choice using the schedule strip or the file folder because I wanted her to be involved in how she would get her assignments done. I made all of her lap-books per subject to go in each file. I put two subjects in each drawer instead of one to save space. I know a lot of parents use 12 cabinets but I have such a small space and this worked out excellent!
